Abstract :
The paper presents a novel carrier-based PWM method with voltage balance for flying capacitor multilevel inverters. Its performance is greatly improved than that of the conventional phase-shifted carrier PWM method (PSPWM), especially under low modulation index region. The novel PWM method can balance the flying capacitor voltage in a period. The validity of the novel PWM method is demonstrated by the simulation and experimental results.
