Abstract
In this paper a metamaterial-inspired mushroom antenna with broad bandwidth is proposed. This antenna is designed on the single-layer printed circuit board (PCB) with a solid ground. It is realized based on a 2 by 2 mushroom structure and an elliptical ring slot incorporated on the surface. By combining three different resonances, including the zeroth order resonance of the small patch inside the slot and the +1st and +2nd resonances of the overall patch, this antenna achieves a measured bandwidth of 36% (-10 dB). Broadside radiation is obtained. Antenna radiation patterns and gain are all provided.
