Abstract :
This paper addresses requirements for emergency communication in a roadside-to-vehicle communication (RVC) system for vehicle safety, and proposes a new media access control (MAC) protocol, which meets both providing multi-applications and prioritizing emergency communication. The proposed technique utilizes two channels. One uses 5.8 GHz band assigned for Dedicated Short Rage Communication (DSRC) system in Japan and the other one uses VHF/UHF band expecting more probability of signal arrival by diffraction around obstacles. This paper also presents some simulation results that explore the basic performance of the proposed technique.
