Abstract
Switch design for ATM (Asynchronous Transfer Mode) networks needs to take a fresh approach in order to support ABR (Available Bit Rate) services efficiently. In particular, ATM switches designed for data communications should implement flow control functions to prevent data loss while minimizing required memory. These new requirements make the design of ATM switches fundamentally different from that of traditional switch design
