Abstract :
PV backsheets are currently produced from petro-based chemicals and may contain hazardous products of decomposition. These factors, to a certain extent defeat, the purpose of using clean or solar energy. The primary goal of PV is to produce electricity while reducing reliance on the world\´s petroleum supply. A secondary goal is to produce a module which is as "green" and "clean" as possible. This paper discusses the development of BioSolar\´s BioBacksheet, a PV backsheet based upon a polymer produced from renewable resources and totally recyclable mineral filler which will be discussed in detail later in this paper. The combination of these materials produces a backsheet, which, in addition to being green and clean, has several advantages over then incumbent backsheets.
