Abstract
A patch antenna fed by an inclined probe pin with a step-shaped ground plane has been proposed. The impedance matching for frequencies across the2.4 GHz band is all within VSWR of 1.5 (better than 14dB), which covers WLAN operation. The measured results show that although a shore probe pin and the shape of a fillister ground is in use, large probe inductance is well compensated for additional capacitive coupling arising between the vertical and inclined plates of the ground and the patch bent portion. The proposed patch antenna along with good radiation characteristics and good broadside radiation patterns are obtained. The measured peak antenna gain is in the range of 7-8.5 dBi and radiation efficiency exceeds about 85%.
