Abstract :
The paper describes a concept for advanced radio resource management in analog cellular systems like AMPS and TACS. The incentive to use more advanced radio resource allocation algorithms can be to eliminate frequency planning, to increase the capacity and improve the quality of the system, Specific to AMPS and TACS is that measurements only are available for the uplinks. Based on these limited measurements the radio resource allocation algorithm has to make decisions which affects both the uplink and the downlink, i.e. it is essential that the quality of uplinks and downlinks is correlated. It is shown that this correlation can be increased by a power control that compensates for the variations in the path loss in the own link. To illustrate the concept the paper contains a simulation of an interference adaptive channel assignment algorithm called QDCS (quality driven channel selection). The results show that the signal to interference ratios can be increased considerably
