Abstract :
The performance of a voice/data integrated personal communication system (PCS) employing code division multiple access (CDMA) scheme is analyzed and compared under different reverse link power control strategies based on the equal signal strength (ESS) rule and the equal error probability (EEP) rule. Multimedia multi-rate CDMA system models with convolutional coding and perfect interleaving are presented for a nonfading channel and a fading channel with diversity reception (e.g. RAKE). Upper bounds on the probability of packet error are obtained to evaluate the limits on the system performance. Graceful performance degradation is observed for systems using the ESS rule for traffic with retransmissions while using the EEP rule for traffic without retransmissions
