Abstract :
Summary form only given. We report the first observation of passive Q-switched pulses from a single cavity vertical cavity surface emitting laser (VCSEL) diode. This has been achieved by incorporating a simple saturable-absorbing, quantum well layer in the P-type, top Bragg reflector of a standard VCSEL structure.
