Abstract
This paper focusses on the significance of quality in the microeconomic analysis of electrical markets. Quality influences both the utility obtained from the electrical energy by consumers and the production cost of this energy. There is a quality level that maximizes the public welfare, i.e., the sum of consumers´ surplus and producers´ profit.
