Abstract
The damping of low frequency oscillation in power system has been a major concern over the years. This paper introduces a new method, based on subspace identification method, for estimating damping of inter-area oscillations. Apply this method together with eigen-analysis to a test system to demonstrate how it can accurately and reliably detect crucial oscillatory modes and damping from data acquired by a simulation of normal operation of the power system.
