Abstract :
When looking on how transients and communication signals are transferred through the distribution network, a broadband model of the whole distribution system is necessary. In this relation a broadband model of the four-wire cables with sector shaped conductors is needed. Such a model for the series impedance is set up in this paper, whereas the shunt impedance will be reported in another paper. The presented series impedance model is based on analytical expressions, which include the effect of nonideal ground, skin effect as well as proximity effect. Simulated results from the set up model are compared with measured results from tests on a 460 m long cable in its real environment and from tests on a 34.3 m long cable in the laboratory. The comparison shows a very good agreement between simulated and measured results
