Abstract :
The design of CHECK, a multilevel system combining heuristic and deep reasoning, is discussed. Both the diagnostic and the man-machine interaction components of CHECK are briefly outlined. The CHECK system is composed of five modules: H-CHECK, C-CHECK, EXPL, NEED, and SAILOR. The core of CHECK is C-CHECK (causal component of CHECK), the module devoted to solving diagnostic problems by using the causal knowledge. CHECK´s causal networks represent pathophysiological models having as basic constituents different types of nodes connected by different types of relationships
