Abstract
In this paper, the authors have introduced alternative approaches to the architectural design of adaptive beamforming system to allow for balancing the processing load between the ground and space segment while optimizing the system capacity and the overall system flexibility. The feasibility of such techniques for the next generation of mobile satellite systems is a subject of further study considering the potential advantages of the proposed architectures for hybrid ground/space multibeam processing.
