Abstract :
Brain rhythms are essential for certain brain functions such as memory, calculation and movement control. The mechanisms of the rhythms in the excitatory-inhibitory neural networks are discussed in this paper. The results show that synchronization and rhythm have many relations with parameters of the network including the number of neurons, the number of synapses, the synaptic weights and the synaptic delays. In some parameter spaces, the neural network appears different rhythm of theta, beta, delta, or nested theta-beta. The results indicate that the rhythm of the oscillation more depends on the number of synapses rather than that of neurons. The analysis on the synaptic weight of excitatory and inhibitory neurons on the rhythm show that there is an excitation-inhibition balance which determine the frequency of the oscillation in the neural network.
