Abstract :
The development of complex systems, such as Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS), is very challenging and has to deal with several unpredictable variables besides high development costs. In this scenario, the alliance between government and universities may contribute to the development and implementation in major cities. This paper presents a project involving the Brazilian Government and more than a dozen Brazilian Universities and Research Centers through the country in the so-called Intelligent Cities Project. This project aims at developing integrated technologies through the alliance between the government and the academic research community in Brazil, and to apply these solutions in the rapid growing Brazilian cities in the next few years and to help to solve some of their common problems.
