Abstract
In preparation for a world satellite planning conference to be held late in 1988, various developments in UHF satellite sound broadcasting technology have been reported. This work is reviewed and system problems created by the adverse multipath propagation environment are aired, together with a description of new and advanced digital coding and modulation schemes tailored to deal with such difficulties. It is concluded that there is a viable range of systems and technology under development which could be realized in the early 1990s to begin satellite sound broadcasting services
