Abstract :
A superconducting magnetic energy storage device can be used either for load levelling application or for improving the dynamic performance of power systems. In the latter application only a small unit of SMES is required. This paper demonstrates the results of transient response of a study in the case of three-area interconnected power system. Further the real power (P) and reactive power (Q) modulation is also discussed. It is proposed, therefore, that pumped storage hydro plant could be replaced by the new technology of SMES in power system application
