Abstract :
The power system stabilizers (PSSs) are widely used in the power system to suppress the power oscillations. How to effectively set the parameters of the power system stabilizers (PSSs) becomes a vigorous topic discussed in many papers. In this paper, a new method is proposed for online self-design or self-adjustment of the power system stabilizers (PSSs) based on the tie-line power variation measured by Phasor Measurement Unit (PMU) in real time. If there is no PSS installed in the selected generator yet, self-design procedure of PSS is activated. If a PSS has already been installed in the generator, there comes to self-adjustment procedure of PSS. Once a low-frequency oscillation is detected, the parameters of PSS can be online designed or adjusted according to the current operating status of the power system in order to supply enough damping.
