Abstract
Pumped storage units are very important to the isolated Taiwan power system, where water resources are limited. An accurate model and parameters of the excitation system as well as other control systems of synchronous machines are also material for examining the dynamic responses of the generating unit. It is economic and efficient to identify these parameters when the finalization field tests of the unit are performed. Experience with the parameter identification of the excitation system for Taipower´s Mingtan#6 pumped storage generation unit is presented in this paper. The generalized least squares (GLS) approach is introduced and employed to identify the desired parameters of the noisy excitation system model. The results of the parameter estimation for Mingtan#6 Excitation system are satisfactory. The GLS parameter identification method using the measured data at finalization tests is then suggested from the viewpoint of economy and engineering
