Abstract
The paper presents an investigation into the use of intelligence-based design concepts to simulate the speed characteristics of induction motor drives. Neural networks are shown to offer an accurate and robust methodology as compared to the traditional ODE-based mathematical approach; in addition, the computing time required to perform the simulations is shown to be superior. A short discussion on other potential uses of intelligence concepts in the control, operation and management of systems is also presented
