Abstract
This paper presents results of the bus charging current switching test performed on disconnector of 300 kV gas insulated metal enclosed switchgear (GIS). Internal effects which occurred during the making and breaking operation are explained from the design point of view, characteristics required by standards are presented, main parameters of switchgear, design feature and tests results of disconnector are given and discussed. A low speed disconnector with additionally shaped screens is proposed as an optimal solution regarding values of pre-arcing and arcing times as criteria of wearing off of contacts and screens and reliability in service
