Abstract

Examples are presented of research in the areas of decision support and electronic communication. In electronic communication a project known as the 3I project (for Inter Institutional Information exchange project) is described. The goal of the project is to provide an electronic communication link between hospitals, GP offices, and pharmacies. Use is made of the public electronic mail facility MEMOCOM of the Dutch PTT. In the area of decision support, two projects are discussed. They concern the development of an expert system for the interpretation of noninvasive test data in patients with peripheral vascular disease and the development of a knowledge-based system for surveillance of antiepileptic medication
