Abstract
This paper describes a decision support system (DSS) for the operation of power system networks. The DSS integrates two mature expert systems developed specifically for alarm processing and fault diagnosis. These have proved to be necessary due to the increasing problem of operator overload following significant system disturbances; the large volume of Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition (SCADA) system data presented during disturbances has sometimes delayed the interpretation of system conditions and consequently limited the scope for restorative action. The benefits for power system operation are demonstrated through this paper which describes various aspects of the developed DSS
