Abstract
A novel algorithm for enhancing a given 3D acoustic field to the extent of ´out-of-head´ has been developed in dedicated fashion for stereo headphones. According to the analysis of the human auditory sense, this algorithm successfully performs the acoustic signal processing with low computational cost, and thus constructs a variety of listening environments even for headphones without causing listening fatigue. Since the algorithm can be implemented by a 16 bit fixed-point DSP with the computational cost of 34.4 MIPS and a small amount of memory, high-fidelity spatial acoustics can be achieved in various applications, such as portable stereo players, music streaming to mobile devices, etc.
