Abstract :
A novel method is proposed for testing functional homology between sequences of proteins or DNAs. The method is based on the application of the Itakura distance measure to the electron-ion interaction potential series. It was tested and gave encouraging results on a series of examples that were considered difficult to analyze using conventional homology scores
