Abstract
Summary form only given. Photonic crystals (PC) are artificial structures with a periodic dielectric function. In contrast with these previous studies, we will focus on the possibilities offered by a photonic crystal of /spl chi//sup (2)/. Such a structure presents a space-independent linear dielectric constant, but has a periodic second order nonlinear coefficient. An example of the structure under study is a 2D triangular lattice of cylinders with nonlinear susceptibility tensor (-/spl chi//sup (2)/) in a medium of nonlinear susceptibility /spl chi//sup (2)/.
