Abstract
English proficiency has become a critical criteria in further education. Among the four skills in language learning, writing is usually considered to be the last acquired skill because it is the most difficult. Lexical errors in college students´ writing can be found frequently. And the learners´ collocational competences confine the development of the fluency and accuracy of the writing. The corpus-based data driven learning (DDL) approach, namely learning vocabulary and phrase through a large collection of structured and authentic text stored in a computer, may heralded as the answer to the collocational errors in writing. This paper attempts to demonstrate the problems that most Chinese students face in writing and to outline the benefits of integrate DDL approach to enhance composition writing.
