Abstract :
High phase order transmission, i.e. more than three-phase, is a unique approach to increasing the power transmission capability of overhead electric power transmission over existing rights-of-way. The introduction of this new technology, however, causes some line protection problems. This paper presents studies relating to the fault arcing transients on a six-phase system with particular reference to the development of adaptive autoreclosure. The arc modelling techniques previously developed by the authors are employed. Comprehensive digital simulation is then presented on a 326 kV six-phase system under various system and fault conditions. The implications of the results on the development of adaptive autoreclosure scheme are also briefly discussed
