Abstract :
In this paper the advantages and shortcomings of the existing fault locating methods of high voltage transmission lines are discussed, and a new fault locating method especially suitable for extra-high voltage transmission lines is proposed. The main feature of this method is that both the distributing nature of the line parameters and the phase difference between the fault currents from the two line ends have been taken into account. The formulas and the algorithms of this method are deduced. Simulation by EMTP has proved that very high accuracy of fault location may be attained by using this method
