Abstract :
The quantitative characterization of an ultrasonic image of carotid artery is carried out using the fractal dimension and second-order statistical parameter. In each image, a number of regions are chosen for analysis. Each region corresponds to a particular type of tissue, for examples, blood, vessel wall, carotid plaque, etc. The effectiveness of each parameter is then assessed based on its ability to discriminate one type of tissue from others. In addition, the fractal dimension is compared with the second-order statistics in the segmentation of the ultrasonic image
