Abstract :
We present a novel architecture, which naturally enables cross-layer interactions through the construction of application-specific protocol stacks out of small reusable services which expose explicit controls to cross-layer tuning policies. Together with a concept we term `Software Defined Optics´ (SDO) this architecture can enable the future optical internet.
