Abstract
In this paper the utilization of uninterruptible- power-supplies (UPS) in fuel-cell-vehicles is proposed. FCVs can take advantage of UPS for several purposes. It has been shown that fuel cell systems prefer constant load in order to operate reliably and with extended life time. At times when FCV load suddenly changes (e.g., acceleration, breaking) the condition of constant load on a fuel cell system is violated. Therefore UPS can be utilized to supply and sink portions of the load that might otherwise damage the fuel cell system. This paper reports design of an uninterruptible power system for vehicles. This work to a great degree is experimental and it demonstrates the feasibility of utilizing UPS in fuel-cell-vehicles.
