  • Abstract
OSIRIDE is the Italian Research Council´s heterogeneous OSI-compatible network. OSI layers 1-5 are now operational on the computers of several manufacturers, and implementation of the OSI file transfer mechanism, FTAM, is underway. The OSIRIDE project team is now analyzing possible further enhancement of the network services. A preliminary study is presented of how the CCR protocol can be the support for some of the transaction management models. First, the characteristics of these models are discussed, focusing on three models that the authors believe are the most interesting. OSI-CCR is then introduced, its characteristics are pointed out and major criticisms of CCR are highlighted. Considerations and guidelines for building a transactional environment based on the CCR standards are presented
