Abstract
In this paper, a composite right/left-handed (CRLH) resonant antenna using complementary split-ring resonator (CSRR) and interdigital capacitor (IDC) was proposed. Also, the validity of the transmission line approach for the antenna was demonstrated. In the proposed design, the first resonance frequency can be controlled by adjusting length of the IDC fingers. The footprint area of the proposed antenna is 72% smaller than that of a conventional patch antenna. Even though the peak gain is 3 dB lower than that of a conventional one, the radiation efficiency is the same, and the proposed antenna has omnidirectional radiation pattern.
