Abstract :
Recently, an unexpected way of optical vortex generation by natural phase objects, such as an optical wedge, has been discovered as a result of technological imperfections of cover glasses for microscopes. A Gaussian beam diffracted by the edge of a cover glass shapes its wavefront in the form of a straight helicoid, typical for an optical vortex. By variations of the wedge´s height and the beam waist it can achieve a nearly ideal vortex form. A detuned optical circuit generates imperfect singular beams with a strong distortion of their wavefront and intensity distribution. The aim of this paper is to study the self-improvement process of the singular beam structure created by the detuned edge´s optical system at the expense of capture of the singularity in the vortex trap.
