Abstract :
Summary form only given. The effect of total suppression of specular reflection (TSSR) was first examined TM polarization in an in-plane geometry. It is caused by transformation of the incident light in the surface electromagnetic wave (surface plasmon-polariton, SPP) due to diffraction at a shallow grating. For out-of-plane (conical) diffraction, resonance excitation of SPP leads to great changes in the intensity and polarization of the specular reflected wave. In this work, it is shown that, if we are dealing with gratings formed by modulation of the surface impedance, then there exists a specific configuration allowing one to observe TSSR for an arbitrary polarized incident wave.
