Abstract :
A possibility to reduce the influence of the turbulent atmosphere on the potential performance of lidar instruments is studied. It is shown that the improvement can be achieved by using adaptive telescopes, which compensate the turbulent distortions of optical signals in each sensing cycle. This facilitates an increase of the signal to noise ratio in the output of the photoreceiver, and, therefore, an improvement in the instrument performance.
