Abstract
In this paper we present the concept of a rational resolution analysis (RRA) which is similar to the M-dilation MRAs, except we allow M to be a positive rational number. The RRA is developed by relaxing the requirement that the successive approximation spaces be embedded. This requires a slightly more complicated scheme for reconstruction and it limits the choices of scaling functions and wavelets which can be used. For discrete-time signal processing, the RRA provides a rational sampling rate change with specific requirements imposed upon the anti-aliasing filter
