Abstract :
Much research effort has been dedicated towards securing the sensor-to-sensor radio and data communication in the wireless sensor networks (WSN). However, the survivability of the wireless sensor network must consider vulnerabilities of other components in its end-to-end infrastructure. The WSNgateway which is responsible for data collection and management of a wireless sensor network forms a single point of failure for the end-to-end sensor network infrastructure, if attacked can bring down the entire surveillance operation irrespective of the security deployed for sensor-to-sensor communication. In this experimental paper, we simulate a DDoS attack on a WSN-gateway of a wireless sensor network to highlight how the computing resource of the gateway can be exhausted which directly hampers or disables the data collection efforts.
