Abstract
Investigations have been undertaken, utilizing a fluid-dynamic finite-element code, to obtain quantitative information on the fluid dynamics of different bypass configurations. The system investigated consists of a symmetric bifurcation with a stenosed branch. Two bypass configurations having the same length and diameter but different angles of insertion have been considered. Although no significant changes in the total bypassed flow have been noted, vector velocity plots and pressure plots close to the bypass anastomosis are different in the two cases, which may result in different blood damage and thrombus formation
