Title :
Configuration management in a heterogeneous target environment
Author :
Lampert, Arthur ; Koenig, Shaye
Abstract :
A description is given of a system for software configuration management of a distributed application written using several programming languages and modern software engineering techniques. The project has a heterogeneous target environment consisting of multiple microprocessor types and operating systems. The authors present the configuration management system by describing its goals, major tools, their databases and algorithms and the procedures for their use. The software configuration management system described was developed to cope with large, microprocessor-based distributed computing systems. Such systems are based on modern forms of software structure supporting `programming in the large´. They execute in a heterogeneous environment, consisting of multiple processors, operating systems and programming languages. This type of target environment, which is characteristic of embedded software systems, is becoming increasingly more common
