Abstract
The paper addresses software´s place in the engineering classroom. The authors present an eight-step process to develop effective, computer-based solutions to engineering problems using standard productivity software: i.e., off-the-self applications that facilitate mathematics, arithmetic, CAD, presentation graphics, and other day-to-day engineering tasks. Examples of such applications include spreadsheets, equation solvers, symbolic manipulators, matrix manipulators, graphic routines, and CAD. Other systems in specific disciplines are also used
