Abstract :
In this paper, we propose a technique for combining Huffman source code with channel Array codes and carry out a complexity analysis of the combined as well as the separate coding system. The trellis algorithm for any combined Huffman and Array decoders is presented together with an example for designing a combined trellis decoder based on the proposed algorithm. The complexity of both coding schemes is analysed in terms of the Complexity Reduction Ratio (CRR) which we shall derive in the paper. It is shown through calculations and simulation results that a combined code provides a reduction in overall complexity and computational time as compared to the conventional separate system comprising of an Array trellis decoder followed by a Huffman decoder.
