Abstract
We consider joint rate and power control in a multi-cellular CDMA system utilizing variable processing gain. We investigate the problem of optimum power allocation for sharing the capacity in a fair way in the whole network. For this, we suggest a general distributed power control algorithm which directs the powers so that a uniform throughput is obtained among the users. We show that the powers converge towards the optimal solution at a geometric rate and how the maximum achievable throughput can be estimated during the power control
