Abstract
The authors discuss an ambitious approach for improving human reliability through integrated information systems, i.e., systems which combine the traditionally disparate fields of intelligent tutoring, job aiding and information retrieval. The approach provides a single system for `cradle to grave´ assistance. Integrated information systems can speed the transition from novice to expert by providing training, diagnostic assistance, and reference information. Example applications for training, performance support, and online documentation include a Boeing 767 environmental control system maintenance simulation, a radar maintenance training system, and a large industrial gas turbine information system
