Abstract
Polarization mode dispersion (PMD) is one of the major limitations in high speed communication links. Thus, it is very important to measure PMD of fiber in high speed networks, specialy in the case when upgrading speed of the network with older fibers. In order to get better insight in PMD we developed simulation program for simulating PMD during linear and nonlinear propagation of pulses in the fiber. In the paper we give some simulation results, describe in detail interferometric measurement method for measuring PMD and give some measurement results. Measurements were made on Croatian Telecom links consisting of old fibers.
