Abstract :
Periodic dielectric or metallic structures are a subject of continuing interest because of their wide use for microwave and optical wave components. A periodic array of circular cylinders is typical of a discrete periodic structure. If the periodic array extends to infinite length, the Floquet theorem can be applied and the scattering from the infinite periodic array can be accurately analyzed using the lattice sum technique. If the array is comprised of a finite number of cylinders, however, we must rely on other solution methods. Various analytical or numerical techniques have been developed over the years to formulate the electromagnetic scattering from the multiple circular cylinders.
