Abstract :
An antialiasing digital filter for video coders, meeting the CCIR Rec. 601 requirements for A/D (analog-to-digital) interfaces, is described. The input signal is oversampled at a frequency that is four times the nominal one; this cuts the complexity of the analog front end filter down to a simple RC stage. Furthermore the input resolution is reduced to 7 b as the eighth bit is recovered during the filtering and decimation phase. A dedicated methodology for the design of 1-D high-speed FIR filters has been developed; it includes programs for filter synthesis and optimization, for the simulation of the processing effects on a video signal, and for a semiautomatic conversion of the final circuit into a CMOS application-specific IC.<>
