Abstract
Complementary split-ring resonators are introduced here to mitigate simultaneous switching noise within power planes used for high-speed printed circuits. The CSRRs are etched on only a single metallic layer of the power planes. We show that by concentrically cascading CSRRs, wideband switching noise mitigation below -20 dB is achieved for a frequency range extending from sub-GHz to 12GHz. The effect of the new power plane topology on the signal integrity was also investigated and analyzed. It was shown that not only would the CSRR result in significant suppression of switching noise but also in robust signal behavior.
